Dear Restrictive Diets

Dear restrictive diets,

It’s not me, it’s you. You’re controlling, demanding, and require too much of my attention.

I did my absolute best to show up and listen to your requirements, but it was never good enough. If I wasn’t perfect, I needed to do better. You failed to acknowledge the improvements I did make, and only focused on what I did wrong.

I’m tired of feeling anxious about constantly trying to be punctilious with your rules and the guilt that comes with it when I’m not.

I’m sick of hearing I’d look better if I lost weight.

I’m done listening to you when it comes to what I can and can’t do. I have a life to live and you can’t be holding me back from experiencing it.

I’m going to listen to my intuition instead of your arbitrary rules. I’m going to live my life in accordance to what empowers me, my body, and my life.

What was your biggest concern before you started working with Devon?

My biggest concern when I started working with Devon was that I was the fear of stepping outside my comfort zone at the gym. I had never really been in the weight room and I was super insecure and nervous about working out in that area. Whenever I wanted to lift before, I would go into the women's section at my gym and work with what they had in there, which wasn't much.

Not long after starting my program with Devon, my confidence in the gym heightened. Her workouts were super easy to follow because she includes video demonstrations of the exercises. Now, I feel more confident than ever—I even wear crop tops to the gym. And, I never thought I’d say this, but I actually kind of like it when people watch me workout.

What did you struggle with the most before this program and how did Devon help you overcome it?

I struggled with food the most before I started this program. I was restricted myself throughout my weight loss journey, which lead to overeating and losing touch with my bodies intuition. Devon taught me so much about nutrition and helped me see that I can still enjoy the foods I love while living a healthy lifestyle. 

What was your favorite part about working with Devon? 

My favorite part about working with Devon is how uplifting she is. She gives the best advice and was there whenever I needed her. Her program gave me the the knowledge necessary to be successful long term and independently so that I can continue on my own without her. Her program is worth the investment. She really does teach you how to live your best life. 

What is one life-altering lesson you learned through this program?

That I can accept myself—just the way I am—while actively striving for improvement. That I need to listen to my body and honor her needs. And that a number is just a number and does not define me.
