Courtney's Transformation Story

Courtney’s story and transformation after going through EmpowerHer Coaching:

What was your biggest concern before you started working with Devon?

My biggest concern before signing up with Devon was if it was going to be worth the investment or if it was really going to help me.

…soon enough, I discovered, it was worth every penny.

What did you struggle with the most before this program and how did Devon help you overcome it?

My biggest struggle I had before I started this program was that I hated my body. I was completely wrapped up in body image insecurities. I hated having my picture taken and would never let people post them unless I approved. Devon helped me unpack and overcome those insecurities. She made me realize cellulite and my body shape was completely normal. That I was defined by my size. And most importantly, she taught me to love myself—just as I am. She showed me the beautiful soul sitting inside me whose worthy of love and appreciation.

What was your favorite part about working with Devon?

My favorite part about working with Devon is her potency to motivate and having her be my biggest cheerleader!! She was / is my hype queen. I could tell her one small thing I did, and she would celebrate the small success with me. She inspires me and I always love hearing what she has to say.

Also, she’s relatable and real AF. It feels like you’re talking to a friend, not just a trainer or coach.

What is one life-altering lesson you learned through this program?

One life-altering lesson I learned from Devon is to be compassionate toward myself. To be loving to myself like I am to others. To be kind and gentle with my words when I speak to myself.

Rebecca's Transformation Story

Rebecca’s story and transformation after going through EmpowerHer Coaching:

What was your biggest concern before you started working with Devon?

My biggest concern when I started working with Devon was that I was the fear of stepping outside my comfort zone at the gym. I had never really been in the weight room and I was super insecure and nervous about working out in that area. Whenever I wanted to lift before, I would go into the women's section at my gym and work with what they had in there, which wasn't much.

Not long after starting my program with Devon, my confidence in the gym heightened. Her workouts were super easy to follow because she includes video demonstrations of the exercises. Now, I feel more confident than ever—I even wear crop tops to the gym. And, I never thought I’d say this, but I actually kind of like it when people watch me workout.

What did you struggle with the most before this program and how did Devon help you overcome it?

I struggled with food the most before I started this program. I was restricted myself throughout my weight loss journey, which lead to overeating and losing touch with my bodies intuition. Devon taught me so much about nutrition and helped me see that I can still enjoy the foods I love while living a healthy lifestyle.

What was your favorite part about working with Devon?

My favorite part about working with Devon is how uplifting she is. She gives the best advice and was there whenever I needed her. Her program gave me the the knowledge necessary to be successful long term and independently so that I can continue on my own without her. Her program is worth the investment. She really does teach you how to live your best life.

What is one life-altering lesson you learned through this program?

That I can accept myself—just the way I am—while actively striving for improvement. That I need to listen to my body and honor her needs. And that a number is just a number and does not define me.

Kristal's Transformation Story

Kristal’s story and transformation after going through EmpowerHer Coaching:

What was your biggest concern before you started working with Devon?

My biggest concern before starting with Devon was that she wouldn't understand my needs as a recent vertical sleeve gastrectomy recipient. I had previously worked with a trainer who was adamantly against the decision, although the trainer prior posed many valid and understandable view points, I felt in my life the surgery was something I needed and wanted and would benefit my life for a healthier, happier lifestyle. The  vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) decision was not an easy one to make because by no means is it an easy way out of dealing with food issues or creating healthy workout habits. I knew i needed a trainer who was non-judgmental in my decision and someone who would guide me to make healthy choices.

What did you struggle with the most before this program and how did Devon help you overcome it?

Prior to working with Devon through EmpowerHer, I had a lot of challenges staying consistent with my workouts. Either I felt I wasn't doing enough or I felt burnt out because I would do too much. I had tried one on one personal training, group programs, and workout programs I would find online, attempting to do them on my own. All of which weren’t successful or satisfying or beneficial. With Devon's program, I know she was giving me workouts that suited me and MY needs, especially with all the changes my body was going through with my surgery.

Not only did I struggle with workouts, but food was a challenge. Staying consistent about eating protein and vegetables was a true struggle for me. With Devon, having weekly follow ups, truly changed my accountability with food and I was finally able to stay consistent with my eating habits. Just because I received a VSG surgery it did not fix my relationship with food, but working with Devon and learning her approach about mindfulness was a concept that helped me tremendsouly reframe the way I felt about food. I never ever felt an ounce of judgement by what or how i was eating with Devon, she simply just helped me reflect on my eating habits and how I could improve.

What was your favorite part about working with Devon?

My favorite part about working with Devon was our consistent communication. I worked with several trainers in the past, constantly attempting to stick to something only to fail and then to feel like I failed them and myself. Devon on the other hand, made me feel empowered, unashamed, unapologetic, and taught me to learn from my mistakes rather chastise myself for it. When I was looking for a trainer I wanted both a friend and a leader, someone who could support me in personal life, yet call me out on my bullshit. Devon provided exactly what I was looking for.

What is one life-altering lesson you learned through this program?

The one life-altering lesson I learned through this program is that I’m human. Life is messy. I will go through ups and downs and there’s no need to be hard on myself or shame myself for the errors I make. Making mistakes is ok—in fact, it’s necessary—it allows me to see what’s not working and what needs changed so that I can better my life. I’m beyond grateful for Devon's guidance.

What was your biggest concern before you began working with Devon?

My biggest concern before I began working with Devon was that I wasn’t going to last very long in the program. I honestly thought that after a week I would give up because I just thought that I wouldn’t be able to do it/wasn't worth it enough to get it done. I was really scared of that outcome and thought about it all the time.

What did you struggle with the most before this program and how did Devon help you overcome it?

What I struggled with the most before this program was how I saw myself. I hated myself and my appearance and everything about myself. I’m not kidding you, everyday for YEARS, whenever I’d look at myself in the mirror, I would say either out loud or in my head. “You are so ugly and disgusting and fat, no wonder no one likes you. You will be like this forever.”

Devon’s Self Love course helped me see that I still had a small positive side within myself, underneath all the negativity, and each week that side of myself grew stronger and stronger. Now, when I look in the mirror, I actually admire myself, and praise myself for how far I’ve come. I never thought that I would ever get to that point.

What was your favorite part about working with Devon?

My favorite part about working with Devon was that she was readily and easily available to hear you. For me, it is so important to have accountability and support, and just someone to listen. She is always there for you, and that is what helped me push through all the negativity within myself and in my life, and the challenging workouts that really tested me mentally and physically. That kept me going - knowing that I wasn’t alone anymore like I had been my entire life.

What is one thing you learned through this program?

I learned so much throughout this program, it’s hard to list just one thing. I learned that I am capable of doing so much more than what I thought. I learned that it's ok to challenge and push yourself even though it can be scary to do so. I learned to appreciate my hard work and to admire myself for my accomplishments. I learned how important it is to take care of myself through healthy eating and physical activity - and how to make those things fun. I learned that it’s ok to be different and how important it is that everyone is not the same and to appreciate everybody’s differences - unlike what society tells you about how you should be and what you should look like. That’s just a few things haha, there’s so much more!

Valerie lives in New York with her boyfriend and is a mom to two adorable kitty cats.

She has a full time job in the restaurant industry that almost always requires her to stay overtime. And because of her hectic schedule, she only works out twice a week (occasionally three - if time permits).

The reason I love Valerie's physical progress is because it's proof that more is not better. Better is better -  better is what WORKS best for you. In this case, two days a week is better because it's what she can stay consistent with and still enough for her to make strides toward creating insane progress.
